qr_code_2 Tracking Review Campaigns with QR Codes
What Gets Tracked
When you create a review collection page with COTGI, every time a customer scans the QR code or clicks a review button, we route them through a short tracking link on our servers. This allows us to record:
- Which review page they came from
- Which platform they went to (Google, Yelp, Facebook, etc.)
- When the click happened (first and last click timestamps)
- How many clicks each link has received over time
Using Reference Codes for Providers, Rooms, or Campaigns
You can also add your own reference code to each QR code or link so you can tell which placement or person generated the click. This is perfect for tracking:
- Providers: Dr. Gupta vs. Dr. Smith vs. Dr. Jackson
- Rooms or locations: Room 1, Waiting Room, Front Desk, etc.
- Campaigns: Email vs. SMS vs. print flyer
How to Set Up Reference Codes
- Create your review page: Use the Review Builder to create a review page for your business.
- Copy the review link: After creation, you'll see the shareable link in the success message (for example:
https://yourdomain.com/review/your-business-slug).
- Add a reference parameter: Append a reference code to the end of the URL using
?_ref=XXXX (or &_ref=XXXX if the link already has query parameters).
https://yourdomain.com/review/your-business-slug?_ref=1001 → Dr. Gupta
https://yourdomain.com/review/your-business-slug?_ref=1002 → Dr. Smith
https://yourdomain.com/review/your-business-slug?_ref=room1 → Room 1
- Generate separate QR codes: Use each unique URL in a different QR code or placement (for example, one QR per doctor or per room).
How COTGI Uses These Codes
When a customer scans a QR code or clicks a link with _ref=XXXX:
- COTGI logs a click for that review page + platform + ref code combination
- The customer is immediately redirected to the correct review platform (Google, Yelp, etc.)
- Over time, you can see which providers, rooms, or campaigns are driving the most review opportunities
lightbulb Example Use Cases
- Give each doctor their own QR code and compare how actively they encourage reviews.
- Place different QR codes in each exam room and track which rooms generate the most scans.
- Use one ref code for an email campaign and another for an SMS campaign to compare performance.
